How to reduce ping in CS2
High ping in Counter-Strike 2 is the delay between your actions and the server's response: your shots don't register and enemies teleport. Some causes are on your end, others come down to which server you pick. Let's tackle both.
What causes high ping
- A distant server - the farther it is geographically, the higher your ping.
- Wi-Fi instead of a cable - a wireless connection adds latency and instability.
- Background downloads - torrents, updates, and streams saturate your connection.
- An overloaded or weak server - also causes lag, even if your own ping is low.
How to reduce ping - step by step
- 1Connect your PC to the router with a cable (Ethernet) instead of Wi-Fi.
- 2Close downloads and apps that use the internet.
- 3Pick a server closer to you - the monitoring shows the ping for each server, so sort by it.
- 4Check your in-game ping with the cq_netgraph 1 command (the replacement for the old net_graph).
- 5Reboot your router if your ping has been spiking for a while.
Pick a server with low ping
The easiest way to play without lag is to connect straight to a low-ping server. On MonitoringCS2 the ping is shown for every server and refreshes every 30 seconds; sort the list by ping and pick the closest one. For how to connect, see the "How to join a CS2 server by IP" guide.
