CS2 update, April 22, 2026: Recoil and aim punch adjustments

What changed

  • Adjusted camera motion due to recoil to match CS:GO more closely. Bullet trajectories should continue to match CS2.
  • Players will now experience the full camera motion due to external sources of aim punch (e.g. getting shot) regardless of network latency. The effects of aim punch on bullet trajectories are still applied immediately on the server.\
  • Minor adjustments to viewmodel animations.
  • Fixed several cases where crouch transitions in the air were instantaneous.
  • Fixed a bug where MVP panel characters weren't resetting correctly.

What it means for players and servers

Valve adjusted weapon recoil mechanics to align more closely with CS:GO while maintaining bullet trajectory consistency with CS2. Aim punch effects are now visually complete for all players regardless of network latency, though server-side trajectory calculations remain instant. Minor fixes were also applied to viewmodel animations and air crouch transitions.

For server administrators, this brings weapon behavior even closer to the classic version, potentially improving comfort for veteran players. Plugins and scripts working with recoil or aim punch mechanics may need verification, though standard configs should function without changes. General server settings remain unaffected.

These changes impact all modes using weapons and the damage system. It's worth checking how the update affects recoil patterns on your server.
